The
Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano once said: "After all, it's
about the world. And the world is made of atoms, but it's also made
of stories." Since the beginning of humanity we have been living
in a world built of stories. We share, create and invent them, and
share them again. Just like the world, human beings are made of
atoms, but we are also stories. They help us grow, they inspire and
engage us, and carry us in their footsteps.
But
this diversity of stories might disappear if they are not told and
shared. Letting them drown into anonimity means they will be
overshadowed by the stories of those who are bigger and have more
power. That is the reason why Uptold
was born - to tell all the human stories possible. Throughout the
world, there are so many different feelings, moments, visions and
dreams growing and flourishing, no matter if they are born in a
forsaken place in South America, in the heart of London or on the
borders of China. But deep down, they all teach us the most valuable
lesson: they are human
stories. In the end, it doesn't
matter where they come from, they always show us that we, human
beings are much more similar to each other than we imagine and that
we have so much more in common than we have been made to believe.
Uptold
hopes to strengthen this connection between us, to unite people
through stories, and to be a bridge that takes us to other places and
other lives. It will put different human voices in the Internet
universe, to keep them from getting lost. This way, they can be
shared, giving inspiration, creating emotions and connecting.
Uptold
has four categories:
—Feelings:
tells the story of one feeling that has made a difference to
someone's life or a moment in their life. This is the category with
the shortest, but perhaps the most powerful stories. Through these
stories we can discover how our own feelings can be found in any
person around the world, despite their nationality.
—Moments:
is about a life-changing moment in the past or an important moment
someone is going through in the present. These stories, neither short
nor long, sumerge us into adventures we never expected to hear about.
On one or two pages, you can follow the undreamed moments that did
become reality.
—Incredible
stories: is for sharing stories of a whole lifetime. These
longer stories will take you on an amazing human voyage from its
beginning to its end. This category is meant for telling
extraordinary stories, so each one of them can take up as much space
as needed, without any limits.
—Love
without borders: tells the stories of international
couples. It's a special category that wants to show us how love is
capable of uniting what distance and borders separate.
Uptold
has two versions, in Spanish
and in English.
Its funding relies entirely on the readers, who can donate in
different ways: via Paypal
(you don't need an Paypal account for this), Flattr
(a site for social microdonations)
and Patreon
(a site to collaborate with a project on a regular basis).
You
can also find us in three social networks: Facebook, Twitter, and you
can contact us via e-mail.
All the work, from the foundations up
to this moment, has been and is carried out by tone person:
Daniel Ubillus,
who is in charge of finding and writing the stories, updating our
social network pages, maintaining the web, promotion and translations. Evrything from the very begining until now.
Daniel was born in Peru and studied Journalism in Malaga, Spain. Since his childhood, he has been interested in Humanities. As time passed, he realized that his biggest passion is writing. His second greatest enjoyment in life is travelling, meeting new people and getting to know other cultures. After finishing his studies, he wanted to create something that would combine his profession with his interests. He first had the idea during his second year of university, and after some failed attempts, Uptold was born.
